Symposium | On the Human
Embroidery on Ceramic and Fabric; Installation
80 × 170 × 75 cm, 2023
This participatory installation revisits Plato’s Symposium to open a present-day conversation on the human.
In a setting for eight, fragments of different plates are recomposed; their fractures are stitched together and kept visible. Each plate becomes “hybrid” and singular, bearing the traces of repair—where the seam reads both as wound and as suture.
The eighth seat is left open for the visitor. A voice recorder placed there invites a brief contribution; recordings are anonymous and will form the basis of a companion podcast in the project’s next phase. Hand-embroidered texts on the tablecloth map a space for listening, empathy, patience and tolerance—qualities we risk losing.
Symposium | On the Human proposes the shared table as both method and site of reflection, treating repair not merely as an aesthetic gesture but as a practice of living together. In doing so, it turns hospitality into a device for collective thought and careful attention.
