This work examines the ways in which promises are positioned and maintained within systems.
An unfulfilled promise causes the structure to lose its function; yet the structure is not renewed, only patched. The words “protects,” “prevents,” and “provides” appearing on the surface reveal how the promise of protection continues to be sustained through language.
The interventions intended as repair do not restore functionality; instead, they make visible the systematic neglect of absence and failure.
Unkept points to a condition in which the idea of protection no longer inspires trust, yet continues to operate as a normalized structure.
