Looking Away

Embroidered Surface

Embroidery and Acrylic on Canvas
35 x 25 cm

Centers on the act of looking away, where violence remains visible yet deliberately unacknowledged.

The eye appears as a recurring image, functioning both as the subject that sees and the surface that is seen. Rather than representing vision as passive, the work frames seeing as an active and ethical position.

Embroidery operates here as a direct engagement with the surface, emphasizing presence rather than illusion. Within the composition, a single gaze remains fixed while others turn away, revealing a selective process of perception.

The work reflects on how visibility does not guarantee recognition. What is in front of us can still be ignored, not because it is hidden, but because it is refused. In this sense, the eye becomes a site where responsibility, denial, and awareness intersect.
